At least 17 Big Island schools will serve free breakfast and lunch to keiki 18 and younger starting this month.
The schools are among 63 statewide participating in the Seamless Summer Option, an annual, federally funded summer food service program which aims to ensure low-income children continue receiving nutritious meals once school’s out.
In order for a school to be eligible, it also must offer some type of summer program on campus.
Also, at least half a school’s enrolled students must qualify for free or reduced price lunches, though meals are open to any student, regardless of income.
Most sites serve breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, excluding June 12 and July 4.

• Hilo High School (June 1-July 14): breakfast 7:30-8 a.m. and lunch 11:20 a.m.-noon.
• Honokaa High and Intermediate School (June 5-July 14): breakfast 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m.-noon.
• Ka‘u High and Pahala Elementary School (June 7-July 14): breakfast 7:30-8 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m. to noon.
• Ke Kula o Nawahi Public Charter School (June 7-30): breakfast 7:10-7:45 a.m. and lunch 11:50 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
• Keaau Elementary School (June 5-30): breakfast 7:15-7:45 a.m. and lunch 11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
• Keaau High School (June 5-29): breakfast 7:30-8 a.m. and lunch 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
• Keaau Middle School (June 5-July 7): breakfast 7:30-8 a.m. and lunch noon-12:30 p.m.
• Kealakehe High School (June 1-July 21): breakfast 7:30-8 a.m. and lunch 10:45-11:45 a.m.
• Keaukaha Elementary School (June 13-July 14): breakfast 7:30-8 a.m. and lunch noon-12:30 p.m.
• Kohala High School (June 13-July 21): breakfast 7:30-8 a.m. and lunch 11-11:30 a.m.
